Coworking spaces like La Place are awesome places to get work done, meet new people, and be part of a vibrant community. Whether you're a freelancer, remote worker, or running your own business, these spaces offer flexibility and networking opportunities while keeping you productive. But to make the most of it—and keep things running smoothly for everyone—there are a few unwritten (and written) rules to follow. Here’s how to be a great coworking space member.
1. Be Respectful of the Space
Coworking spaces are shared, which means it’s important to be considerate. Keep your workspace or Hotdesk tidy, clean up after yourself in the kitchen, and leave common areas better than you found them. A neat space helps everyone focus and feel comfortable.
2. Keep Noise Levels in Check
We love a little yap and coffee chat to connect, but nobody wants to hear your entire Zoom meeting or personal phone call. Use headphones when listening to music and be mindful of how loud you’re talking. Friendly chats are great—just make sure they’re not disrupting someone deep in work mode.
3. Be a Meeting Room Pro
If you book one of our meeting rooms, be on time and wrap up when your slot is over. And don’t forget to leave it as you found it—clean and ready for the next person. Running over your time? Check if someone else has it booked before staying longer. We are more than happy to accommodate if the time is available!
4. Network Without Being Overbearing
One of the coolest things about coworking spaces is meeting like-minded professionals. But not everyone is up for a chat all the time. If someone’s got their headphones in or looks deep in thought, it’s probably best to let them be. When the timing is right, networking can be a great perk of coworking! Our cafe/lunch room is a great spot to start a conversation with other members.
5. Follow the House Rules
Every coworking space has guidelines—whether it’s about guests, shared resources, or general behavior. Take a moment to familiarize yourself with them and respect the rules. They exist to keep the space enjoyable for everyone. If you have any questions, you can always check with a member of our awesome team!
6. Share the Perks
Coffee, snacks, printers—coworking spaces like La Place are so happy to offer shared resources, but they’re meant for everyone. Take what you need, don’t hoard supplies, and let the management know if something needs restocking.
7. Respect Privacy and Security
While coworking spaces are all about community, privacy still matters. Don’t peek at other people’s screens, listen in on calls, or leave your stuff unattended. File cabinets or storage units may be available to you in your membership, just shoot us a message and we can help you out if you are wondering about storage.
8. Get Involved!
The best coworking spaces thrive because of their community. Attend events, engage with fellow members, and contribute however you can. Whether it’s sharing advice, collaborating on projects, or just being a friendly presence, your involvement makes the space better.
Being a great coworking space member is about being respectful, considerate, and engaged. When we all do our part—keeping noise down, respecting shared spaces, and being friendly—the coworking experience is better for everyone. At La Place, we love seeing our members thrive in a space that’s both productive and welcoming. Let’s make it an awesome place to work together!
